This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work as master diagnostic technicians in the automotive service and repair industry; servicing, diagnosing, and repairing vehicle electrical systems and components including hybrid electric vehicles. A range of advanced electrical diagnostic skills and knowledge is necessary, and leadership and supervision of others would be expected.
Those undertaking Certificate IV in Automotive Electrical Technology must have completed AUR30320 Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology or be able to demonstrate equivalent competency.
Elective units that have been chosen for this qualification include those required for the Hybrid Electric Vehicle Specialisation (AURSS00037 – Hybrid Electric Vehicle Inspection and Servicing Skill Set).
- AURETH011 Depower and reinitialise hybrid electric vehicles
- AURETH012 Service and maintain electrical components in hybrid electric vehicles*
- AURETH110 Diagnose and repair high voltage rechargeable energy storage systems in hybrid electric vehicles*
*Note: These units have prerequisite requirements.
This skill set meets the requirements for technicians working on hybrid electric vehicles under Australian Standard AS5732:2015 Electric Vehicle Operations – Maintenance and Repair.

Delivery and Assessment Options
Delivery and assessment for this qualification is completed via distance learning through on-the-job training. Participants provide evidence of skills and knowledge by submitting completed job cards (repair orders), photographs / videos and 3rd party reports from an Industry Expert / Supervisor.
RPL for Upgrading Older Qualifications
The Learning Professionals provide a simple process for you to upgrade your older qualifications to the current qualification by means of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Majority of the older units of competency that make up the Certificate IV are equivalent, allowing you to receive direct credit transfer. Some minor gap training may be required for some units.
